Free Test and Professional Licensure Preparation

The Prepare for Illinois’ Future Program provides comprehensive test and professional licensure preparation at no cost to NIU students through February 28, 2026.

Free Test Prep Courses

NIU is now offering all current students free access to Kaplan’s industry-leading test preparation courses for career credentials and exams including the GRE, LSAT, MCAT, NCLEX and many more.

Get started

Select NIU from the list of universities, then create an account using your NIU student email address to access Kaplan’s expert guidance and comprehensive materials. Available course options will vary depending on degree level. After signing up for a free course, you will have one year to complete it, with the exception of some nursing programs that require completion in six months.

Illinois Licensure Teaching System (ILTS) Tests

NIU’s Office of Educator Licensure and Preparation will distribute practice ILTS test vouchers to eligible students, who have 120 days from the activation date to access the practice tests.

  Request a Voucher

  1. Visit exam registration.
  2. Scroll down to "choose a group".
  3. Select "Free Voucher for Illinois Licensure Teaching System (ILTS)".
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the form.
  5. After completing the form, monitor your NIU email account for your voucher. Please allow up to three business days.

  Activate a Voucher

  • Register at ILTS to find and sign up for available practice tests.
  • After choosing a practice test, proceed to checkout.
  • On the checkout page, there will be a box where you can input your voucher.

  Voucher Information

  1. Vouchers for ILTS practice exams are available until September 30, 2025.
  2. After receiving a voucher, you must activate it by no later than September 30, 2025 at ILTS.
  3. After activating a voucher, you will have 120 days to take the practice exam.
